Established in 2005, the Documentary Film Institute was created to support nonfiction filmmakers and to bring their films to the attention of wider audiences.

The Doc Film Institute is a project of the International Center for the Arts at San Francisco State University. Established through the generous support of alumni George and Judy Marcus, the Center was created to celebrate the world’s most innovative art and artists, with a focus on documentary film, visual and performing arts.
